Shamanism as a buzzword

The short answer: NO

Shamanic work is popular to try and mimic because it is traditionally so powerful.

Shamanism is one of the oldest (if not THE oldest) spiritual practice in the world.

In order to perform shamanic work, you must be trained. This is how it has always been.

It is NOT enough to feel like you have a soul connection to shamanism (although this is an important place to start).

Nor is it enough to be spirit trained with shamanic work.

Because it is an ancestral, earth based type of spiritual practice, you must be taught, and have shamanic practices passed down to you from those who have come before. There is a level of initiation that is part of shamanic work and must be respected.

Since shamanic healing techniques are so popular right now, how do you know if someone is doing the real thing or claiming to do something they can’t do?

The only way to truly know is to check someone’s training. Anyone who is truly shamanically trained will make that information easily accessible for any potential clients to see. Anyone who is not will have no information for you about their training background.

Let’s talk about soul retrievals in particular:

Many untrained practitioners are claiming to perform soul retrievals these days.

A soul retrieval requires focused shamanic journeying, the kind of journey work that takes training to be able to perform safely and effectively.

If someone offers you a soul retrieval without being able to provide info about their shamanic background: they’re not doing a real soul retrieval.

At best, you may receive some of your power (but not a true soul piece) back from the work performed.

At worst, you may actually suffer soul loss from someone trying to perform a soul retrieval without training.

Same thing goes with shamanic journeying. If someone cannot provide their qualifications, don’t allow them to perform any kind of shamanic journeying or work for you. They don’t know what they’re doing.

Unfortunately, because shamanism is such a buzzword, as is “soul retrieval”, there are a lot of people using these words without actually knowing what they mean.

Make sure to check in before you allow a practitioner to do work for you. Ask for their training. And if you are a practitioner: DON’T use these words if you don’t have the training or knowledge to do the real shamanic work.

This is one important reason behind why I’m offering a shamanic apprenticeship this year. To teach those who feel a soul calling to learn how to perform shamanic work to do so safely and effectively.

If you’ve felt called to a shamanic path, the first step to accept that call is shamanic apprenticing.

Apprenticeship starts March 13th - reach out or head to the link here to join!
